How to Clear Your Energy Blocks: A Down to Earth Approach

Have you ever heard talk about how to clear your energy blocks and wondered what it meant? What’s an energy block anyway? Well, you might have one knotted up between your shoulder blades right now, from hunching over a desk. Or if you’ve ever crossed your legs too long and had your foot go to sleep, you know the experience.
Physicists tell us that everything in the universe is actually composed of energy. All matter, they say, is only as hard or soft as the vibrations of the atoms that form it. We may feel our feet on solid ground, but the ground we stand on is not solid at all.
Once you consider everything as energy, the idea of keeping its pathway’s clear is easier to tackle. Terms like writer’s block, blocked legislation, a blocked up river, or blocking pass in football, all show how things get interrupted or thrown off course. Our individual energy blocks take the form of tension in our bodies, fear and worry, inability to focus, or the total shut down of depression. Severe blockages can even threaten our lives.
And sometimes, asking how to clear your energy blocks means wondering how to get out of your own way.
Go with the Flow. A good first step to clearing energy blocks is to stop giving them so much attention. Instead, picture your unblocked energy, sometimes called “the flow.” You know your energy is uninterrupted when you experience what athletes call “being in the zone,” when everything just seems to work.
Many athletes rehearse this flow in their minds, seeing their winning actions in advance. You can rehearse your own energy flow by imagining your life force surging through your body, with whatever images you choose.
How to unblock your energy where it gets stuck the most.
1. Clear the energy blocks in your body. A basic tenet of Chinese medicine maintains that good health requires a proper flow of “life energy,” called Ch’i. Practicing Tai Chi exercise moves you gently to get that energy flowing again, as it should. It also improves balance, tones your upper body and is one heck of a thigh workout.
The systems of our bodies all involve some sort of energy flow. As our circulatory system conveys our blood and all the oxygen and nutrients we need, the lymphatic system, our muscles, and even our bones share in the process.
To clear energy blocks in your body, it is also crucial not to eat foods that do the opposite. Trans fats, aka hydrogenated oils, have thankfully been criticized for blocking our arteries. And there is evidence that sodas block the absorption of calcium for your bones. Time spent now to learn about better nutrition beats time spent later with a cardiologist.
2. Clear your mental energy blocks. If you are old enough to remember AM radio, you might remember turning a dial and hearing several fuzzy stations, all trying to break through the static and be heard. Does this sound like your brain?
Get up, move around, and take a mini-meditation break. You have a better chance of ignoring the noise if you stop fighting it, and instead focus all your attention on something 180˚ away from where you are. Go powder your nose, brush your teeth. Your bathroom sink can be factory of ideas.
3. Clear your emotional energy blocks. Releasing meditations are excellent for removing harmful energy blocks. You may carry a lifetime of negative emotions, fears, resentments. And thinking about your bad feelings just makes them grow.
Instead, find some time to meditate specifically on letting go. Imagine some dark color floating out of you and replaced with light and weightlessness. Throughout your day consciously forgive and let go of negative emotions whenever you can. As St. Paul said, “whatever is good…think on these things.”
No energy exists in isolation. Any steps you take to clear your energy blocks impact all the areas of your life. So applaud yourself for every block you dismantle. Relish every surge of positive energy, and enjoy the flow.

How to build self-confidence

Confidence can be a tough thing to build up but we have some handy tips that just might help you out. If these strategies don’t help, you might have to dig a bit deeper for ways of building yourself up.

This might help if...

  • you’re looking for ways you can become more confident
  • you want to know some practical strategies to become more confident
  • you’re not sure why you’re lacking confidence
Two surfer guys
Not everyone is born with an in built sense of self-confidence. Sometimes it can be hard to develop confidence, whether because of personal experiences that have caused you to lose confidence or suffering from low self-esteem.
There are a couple of handy things you can do to build your confidence. Some of these are just little changes to your frame of mind, and others are things you have to work on for a bit longer to get used to them.

Top 5 tips for building self-confidence

1. Look at what you’ve already achieved

Sometimes it can be easy to focus on what you haven’t done. It’s easy to lose confidence if you feel like you haven’t achieved anything. Focusing on stuff you have done, big or small, can help you gain perspective on all your talents and abilities.

Write down a list of all the things you’re proud of in your life. Think of things you have achieved, whether it’s getting a good mark on an exam or even learning to ride a bike. Keep this list close and add to it when you do something you’re proud of. When you’re low in confidence, pull this list out and use it to remind you of all the awesome stuff you've done.

2. Think of things you're good at

Everyone has strengths and talents, what are yours? Have a look at our fact sheet onstrengths and work out how you can build on yours. Recognising what you’re good at and trying to build on those things can be a really valuable way of building confidence in your own abilities.

3. Set some goals

Set come goals and aim to achieve them. By proving to yourself that you can get stuff done, you’ll prove to yourself what you’re capable of achieving. They don’t have to be big goals; they can even be things like baking a cake or planning a night out with friends. Just little things that can be ticked off a list and help you gain self-confidence in your ability to get stuff done.

4. Talk yourself up

You’re never going to feel confident if you have a negative commentary running through your mind telling you you’re no good. Think about your self-talk and how that might be affecting your self-confidence. Have a read of our fact sheet on self-talk to get some handy tips on turning your negative self-talk around.

5. Get a hobby
Try to find something that you’re really passionate about. Do you like playing footy? Like building model trains? Think of some of the stuff you’re really interested in and commit yourself to giving them a go. Finding stuff that you’re passionate about will help you find stuff that you’re good at. Chances are, if you’re interested or passionate about a certain activity you’re likely to be good at it as well.

If you’re not feeling better

Sometimes the quick fixes don’t help in the long term. If you’re feeling really bad and things just don’t seem to be getting better, it might be worth going to talk to someone who knows how to build you up.
Professionals like counsellors and psychologists have some really good strategies that can help you build up your confidence. Not only that, but they may be able to help you find the underlying problem that might be causing you to feel bad about yourself.

HOW OUR THOUGHTS AFFECT OUR VIBRATION

Everything is energy. Everything we can see, hear, touch, taste and smell is made of different wavelengths vibrating at different frequencies. Our brain is like a translator that has the ability to interpret these frequencies into what we perceive to be our physical reality. So we interpret an energy cluster as a chair, or a tree, or another person. We perceive them as physical or solid, but break them down to their smallest particles and they're all just energy. There are non-physical energies as well, of course. Our thoughts, for example, are just different vibrations.

Every time you think a thought, you send out that thought's specific vibration. If a thought makes you feel good, if it's a "positive" thought, it is vibrating at a higher frequency. If a thought makes you feel bad, if it's a "negative" thought, it's vibrating at a lower frequency. So, "I hate you" has a much lower frequency than "I love you", for example.

The more focus you give to a thought, the more thoughts of the same vibration will join it. This is the Law of Attraction in action - like attracts like. As the vibration grows, it becomes stronger, more stable, more able to attract other, equal frequencies. The more attention you pay to a subject, the easier it becomes to think about it, and the more evidence you see in your world supporting your thoughts about it. If you think the world is a terrible place and spend a lot of time watching negative news, looking for horrible and sad stories in the paper and spending hours talking to others about how the world is going downhill, more stories supporting this world view will literally find you. Whenever you meet someone who thinks the world is a wonderful place, they're probably going to annoy you - the energy of their thoughts is completely foreign to you.

The thoughts you think form a collective vibration. Some of your thoughts are more negative and some are more positive, but the majority of your thoughts are going to be in pretty much the same range. If you think predominantly positive thoughts, your overall vibration is going to be higher than if you think predominantly negative thoughts. And this collective vibration will affect what thoughts or vibrations you have access to. If you are a predominantly negative person, you'll have a very hard time thinking a cheery, sunshiny, happy puppy thought. It's not impossible, but it's very difficult.

So, are we then merely a collection of our thoughts? Not really, no. Who we are is pure, positive energy. Our natural state is one of high vibration. So, if you have no thoughts, as in the state of meditation, you will naturally return to that high frequency. Any thought which deviates from this high vibration, however, will have the effect of bringing your overall vibration down.

The thing to remember, though, is that we have the ability to deliberately choose which thoughts to think. We do not have to be at the mercy of our thoughts, letting them determine our collective vibrations. We can change our energies at any time.

There are many ways to raise your vibration, and you can work your way up the emotional scale one "issue" at a time. But the most important thing to remember is that you have the power to choose your thoughts and therefore you have the power to change your vibration and how you feel. Make a commitment to yourself today that you will no longer put up with not feeling good, not being who you really are. Reclaim your power and deliberately choose to feel the way you were always meant to. Because, you are supposed to feel good. It's your natural state. All you have to do is allow yourself to return to it.

How To Change Your Circumstances

Every week I get a number of emails from people all over the world telling me about their circumstances and how they wish they could change them.
I hear stories of how their parents mistreated them, how they were born into a poor or dysfunctional family, how their spouses are negative, how difficult their jobs and bosses are. It seems everybody has something or someone to blame for their current circumstances.
That's okay. After all - it's not about blame.
Instead of trying to attribute your situation to someone or certain events - how about focusing on finding a solution and finding a way to change your circumstances.
I'm going to outline how you can change your situation or circumstances and improve the quality of your life and the lives of those around you.
Stop The Blame Game
The first step to changing your circumstances is to stop blaming somebody or some events for where you are today.
Sure other people and events had an influence - but it's time to accept some responsibility and admit that you may have had a role in how things turned out.
If you look carefully at the events of the past you'll find that a single decision or a series of decisions that you made played a major role in creating your own circumstances.
When you accepts some responsibility you begin to give yourself the power to change things.
If you continue to blame somebody or an event - you give them power and you will continue to live life on their terms.
You can live life on somebody else's terms and change your situation.
It simply won't happen.

If you still don't feel that you played a role - then take a look at your thoughts. Are they predominantly negative? Are they filled with anger? Resentment? If they are then you will only attract more negative situations to you and this will lead to more negative circumstances.
If your circumstances are negative or if you feel you are not living the life you want then in order to change this you have to accept that on some level you manifested the life that you have.
You may not want to admit to that - but work with this idea for and you'll begin to understand how you can create change.
For example: if you are currently unemployed - what decision or choices did you make that may have played a role in you being unemployed? Did the job you selected that you eventually lost lead to your current situation? Had you made a different choice would you still be unemployed?
If you recently got divorced or broke up with your spouse - what choices or actions did you take that may have played a role in your current situation? Could you have made a better choice?
Chances are we all could have made different choices that would have changed our circumstances. And this is the process of accepting responsibility. Because now you can focus on making better choices, attracting better situations and creating the changes that you want.
How can you make better choices?
Change the way you think. Instruct your subconscious mind to help you make better choices. Attract better situations into your life by changing the way you think and live.
So think about your current situation.
Accept some responsibility for what happened - when you accept responsibility you give yourself the power to create the changes that you want.
Look back at some of the decisions that you made that may have influenced the way your life turned out.
Track your thoughts - are they predominantly negative or positive?
Start making better choices.
Get your mind and subconscious mind working for you so that you begin improving your situation.

Change Your Attitude.
Now that you have accepted some responsibility it's time to begin attracting positive situations and people into your life.
To do this first start with your attitude. This means instead of looking at what is wrong in your situation and other situations, look for what is positive and find ways to correct what is wrong.
I recall working with a student named Armando, who had experienced tremendous
success when he was young. By the time he was 29 he was a millionaire. By the
time he was 35 he had lost just about all of his wealth. Now at 42 he
has turned things around completely and is back making fortunes.

What happened?
When Armando and I started working together several years ago - this former
wonder kid had a terrible attitude. He knew everything, and everybody
else was either crazy or didn't know what they were talking about.

To cut a long story short, Armando realized that when he was successful he believed and thought that anything was possible. Along the way he got tired, angry, frustrated and negative. That's when he lost most of his fortune. It took a while for Armando to realize this - but when he did - he changed his attitude and changed his life.
How do you change your attitude?
Change what you regularly think about.
Instead of filling your mind with negative thoughts - fill them with positive thoughts.
Instead of looking at why things won't work out - force yourself to find solutions and think of how things can work out. Open yourself up to all possibilities.
Think of your mind as garden, you can cultivate it, or you can let it run wild. You can fill it with the weeds of negative thinking, thoughts of lack, limitation and worry. If you don't control your mind and cultivate it with positive thoughts regularly - the weeds of negative thinking will take over and destroy your life - just like weeds can destroy your garden.
It's your mind and how you think, live and see things will have a direct impact on your current situation.
Why?
Every thought you have is picked up by your subconscious mind.
Your subconscious mind then considers your regular thoughts as an instruction - telling it to create what you regularly think.
So if you are constantly negative and have a negative attitude you will continue to create your own negative circumstances.
This constant negative thought process could lead to you losing your job, breaking up with a spouse, losing your home, making bad investment choices, losing on a business venture, etc.
A negative attitude leads to a negative life and negative circumstances.
So start changing your thoughts and attitude today. Regularly think about the positive situations in your life. Search for good and positive things everyday.
Look for solutions instead of constantly looking at the problems.
Give your subconscious mind positive instructions so that you create a positive life

You can turn things around in your life.
You can improve or change your circumstances.
You can begin living the life you want.
Take responsibility and empower yourself.
Take charge of your life by creating a positive attitude.
Give your mind and subconscious mind positive instructions so that you start living a better, more fulfilling life.

Inspiration~Self-Acceptance Meditation

To Begin:

Light a candle or some incense creating a sacred space bringing your attention to the present moment. Read the meditation through slowly and get a feel for the essence of this work. Open your mind and relax your body as you bring in the feeling of deep self acceptance and your divine connection with Mother/Father God. As you read the meditation a second time, become conscious of your breath. Allow your inhalations and exhalations to be smooth, slow, and rhythmic.
Now come into a comfortable position. Now that you have read through the meditation, you have already begun to attract the flow of energy that resonates with the acceptance of all that you are, your wholeness. Now slowly close your eyes, inhale and exhale slow and deep. With each inhalation silently say the first line:
I am the light of Mother/Father God that never fails:
Then exhale slowly. Repeat this three times. Slow and easy.
Roll your eyes up slightly as if you are looking out the top of your head. With intent to increase the flow of energy you generated with the initial reading, relax your eyes and bring your attention to your heart center. Relax, breath and trust that your energy is increasing its vibration aligning with the loving acceptance and acknowledgment of all that you are. Rest in the heart center, commune with Mother/Father God. Slowly bring your thoughts to your radiant health, your divine beauty, integrating all parts of your being with unconditional love. Maintain the flow of energy for as long as you are able.
When you have finished with the meditation read it over once again and feel how connected you have become with Source and your own divinity.

Self-Acceptance Meditation:

I am the light of Mother/Father God that never fails.
Mother/Father God dwells within my heart.

Every cell that makes up the “Allness of my Beingness” is accepted by me in the light of love that is unconditional.
All aspects of myself are known to me and I lovingly acknowledge all that I am.
And because I lovingly acknowledge all that I am I naturally grow in wholeness in my every thought, word, and deed.
I am a beautiful expression of my total self and naturally draw upon the unlimited resources of the universe for my continued growth and understanding of all that is and all that I am as, I am That I am.
As I grow in faith and love and total acceptance of all that I am, the light within me burns ever brighter.
I am radiant health and joyous aliveness.

I integrate all parts of my beingness with unconditional love and bring forth the expression of my truest self that most clearly radiates my deepest soulful expression of life on Earth.
I honor and care for my ethereal, emotional and mental bodies.

In this present expression of life on Earth I honor and care for the physical body I have chosen.
I move through every day life with integrity, grace, kindness, and understanding.
I flow with the changes of life with grace and ease.
I trust the natural flow of changes within me and all around me.
I call all parts of myself unto myself for the perfect expression of all that I am.
I am in the vibration of deep appreciation and gratitude.

How to Use the Law of Attraction

The law of attraction states that every positive or negative event that happened with you was attracted by you. Say that a special friend loaned you money when you didn't have any. You attracted that, even without your awareness of using the law. Say that teacher, classmate, client, or co-worker gave you a hard time during the day. You attracted that, too. Again, we are using the law every second of every day. You've even attracted reading this article! There are really only three basic steps: ask, believe, and receive. However, the point of this article is to break those three steps down into actions that you can do.

Steps

Image:Use the Law of Attraction Step 1.jpg
1
Relax your mind. Meditate for 5 to 10 minutes. Doing this will increase brain power and have your mind at that relaxed state. This step is optional but recommended.
Use the Law of Attraction Step 2.jpg

  1. 2
Be sure about what you want and when you do decide don't doubt yourself.Remember that you're sending a request to the Universe which is created by thoughts and therefore responds to thoughts. Know exactly what it is that you want. If you're not clear/sure, the Universe will get an unclear frequency and will send you unwanted results. So be sure it is something you have strong enthusiasm for.
  2. Use the Law of Attraction Step 3.jpg
    3
Ask the Universe for it. Make your request. Send a picture of what you want to the Universe. The Universe will answer. See this thing as already yours. See How to Visualize. The more detailed your vision, the better. If you're wanting that Nintendo Wii, see yourself sitting down playing a game on it. See yourself feeling the controller, playing your favorite game(s), touching the console. If there's that person you have a crush on, see yourself walking with her/him, touching or caressing the person, or even kissing the person. You get the idea.
  3. Use the Law of Attraction Step 4.jpg
    4
Write your wish down. Start with "I am so happy and grateful now that..." and finish the sentence (or paragraph) telling the Universe what it is that you want. Write it in the present tense as if you have it right now. Avoid negation terms (see Warnings for more on this). Every day until your wish comes true, close your eyes and imagine your desire as if it's happening right now.
  4. Use the Law of Attraction Step 5.jpg
    5
Feel it. Feel the way you will now after receiving your wish. You must act, speak, and think as if you are receiving it now. This is actually the most important, powerful step in using the Law of Attraction because this is where it starts working, and sometimes if you do this you don't feel like you need it anymore because you FEEL like you already have it! and then the universe will manifest this thought and feeling and you will receive it.
  5. Use the Law of Attraction Step 6.jpg
    6
Show gratitude. Write down all the things the Universe has given you. Be thankful for what you already have and be thankful for all the things the Universe has given you. The Universe has done a lot of things for us. Paying the Universe back with some gratitude will motivate the Universe to do even more things and will draw more things into your life. If you were once bullied and that person stopped, that's one thing to be thankful for. If the person you're crushing on likes you back, or doesn't but she/he didn't send their lover out to hurt you, that's another thing to thank the Universe for. You should also thank the Universe for this process too. Showing gratitude will turbo boost the Universe to manifest your request faster.
  6. Use the Law of Attraction Step 7.jpg
    7
Trust the Universe. Imagine an alternate dimension that is almost exactly like the real world but whatever you truly desire comes true in an instant. See yourself in that dimension, where whatever you ask the Universe for comes to you in an instant. Don't look for what you asked for; this is where people tend to mess up. If you have to keep an eye out for an event that manifests your wish, it's only telling the Universe you don't have it and you will attract...not having it. Be patient. Don't get upset if these things don't happen immediately. Don't stress the "how" of things. Let the Universe do it for you. When you take the Universe's job of worrying about the "how", this says you're lacking faith and that you're telling the Universe what to do when the Universe has far greater knowledge and power than human mankind.
  7. Tips
  8. If your current reality is bad, try not to think too much about it. Most of the people pay attention to their current reality and attract the same. Focus on what you wish to experience instead. It works.
  9. Try this... if you experience an event that makes you so happy and overjoyed that you want to attract more into your life then try and remember your inner emotion you had (your heart beating faster/ stomach jumping) whatever it was try and replicate that by remembering the event and then if your vibrational energy is the same as you felt in that joyous moment then the it will manifest and you will attract it into your life.
  10. Have a vision board or a picture from a magazine to help you see and feel what you want, look at that picture everyday (better to do this in the morning since this will help you to feel better throughout the day), and focus on emitting happy feelings to the Universe.
  11. Focus as often as you can on what you DO want rather than on what you don't want. For example, if you are angry or upset about a war/conflict that has been going on, do your best to be 'pro-peace' rather than 'anti-war' - focus on the peace, and the kinds of solutions that you would like to see, instead of whatever it is that you do not like about the situation.
  12. Good feelings = good reality. Feel GOOD. Put on your favorite song, paint a picture, have fun with your pet, or think of someone or something that you love, something that makes you happy, and just shut your eyes and dwell on this. These can be called Frequency Shifters, so have a few up your sleeve. Different thoughts work for different situations, so think of a few now you can use later.
  13. An interesting fact: Even celebrities like Lady Gaga use the law of attraction, and many have experienced its success.

  14. Warning!

  15. If you want something to happen, such as you want a bike, don't just say I want that bike, believe you are going to get that bike. Instead of telling yourself you want the bike, envision yourself riding that bike. It doesn't matter whether or not you know when your going to receive it, just believe you're going to get it and have no doubts about it. If you have any doubts, quickly change your thought pattern to the positive and focus on receiving or having what you want.
  16. Avoid using those negation terms. For example, if you want to get out of debt and you say "I want to get out of debt," the Universe only see the word 'debt' and will send more along your way. It pays no attention to negation terms like, 'no', 'not', 'none', 'out' and so forth. Instead say "I am in rich/wealthy have lots of money."
  17. You can't have any resistance in your mind for example: if you have just tried using the law of attraction and you say "this stuff isn't working" then the universe will give you more of 'this isn't working.'
  18. If you are constantly worried about bad things happening, or negative outcomes, then you are using the law of attraction AGAINST yourself. To worry is really to apply most of the above steps, towards a NEGATIVE outcome. You are visualizing the negative outcome and asking the universe for it with pictures of the negative outcome, you are feeling the feelings of the negative outcome ... Stop Worrying and follow step seven above.
  19. "Be careful what you wish for because you just may get it," is not a statement to joke around with. This law is so powerful your request could manifest instantly and powerfully without warning. Remember, this Law could be used to create or destroy.
  20. You can't use the Law of Attraction to control people. However, if you have a friend who you haven't seen in a long time and you want her to come to you. Instead of saying "I want my friend to show up at my door," just say, "I want to walk down the street and see her pass by," or something like that.

BOB PROCTOR CLARIFIES THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

he Secret is a film that influenced a lot of lives of those who watched the film. The Secret basically talks about the Law of Attraction and how it can help you to change your life for the better. This particular philosophy has been around for many years now and yet to this day, people are finding it difficult to master and apply it properly to their own lives. Bob Proctor is a firm believer of the Law of Attraction, he happens to be one of the main speakers of the movie as well. He admits that it is a tricky concept, however he shares a few tips on how to apply and understand this particular philosophy.
One of the very first things that you need to master, when trying to apply the Law of Attraction, is having a positive outlook life. Being more positive in life will help you to attract the things you desire easily. Surely, no one would want to attract something negative to happen in their lives; so basically what we are trying to attract are positive events and the like; if you couple it with a positive attitude, attracting it would come as a breeze. This philosophy wants you to keep the positivity even if challenges come your way.
Another neat trick is the ability to visualize exactly what you want to achieve or attain. Visualization in its simplest sense is a technique that lets you take a mental picture of the things you desire. Whether you are aiming for a better job position, healthier lifestyle, or better relationships with the people around you, you have to be able to visualize that you are in that position; as if you already attained it. By the use of visualization, you may be able to get that extra push or inspiration to go after what you want.
Daily affirmation is another neat technique that works similarly to visualizations. This time, aside from just visualizing what you want, you can also say some inspiring words to yourself everyday. In The Secret, the speakers push you to affirm your desires to yourself everyday; do not count on others to affirm your desires for you. The more you affirm to yourself that you will be able to achieve your goals, the more it is likely to happen.
The Law of Attraction is explained in detail in The Secret, and yet there are those who still find this philosophy quite difficult to understand and apply. Hopefully with these tips from Bob Proctor, you will have a better understanding of The Secret and be able to successfully apply it to your own life.

THE POWER OF WORDS: TRANSFORM YOUR VOCABULARY, TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE! by Anthony Robbins

Words have incredible power in our lives. For one, they provide us with a vehicle for expressing and sharing our experiences with others. Most of us don’t realize, however, that the words you habitually choose also affect what you experience. Transformational Vocabulary is about how you can take control of your habitual vocabulary to change the quality of your life. Simply by changing your habitual vocabulary—the words you consistently use to describe the emotions of your life—you can instantly change how you think, feel and how you live.
What’s interesting is how two people can experience the exact same sensations differently in their bodies by virtue of the labels they put on the experience. For example, one person may feel “frustrated” while the other just feels “a little confused.” It amounts to a huge difference in the way we feel, and when we change the way we feel, we change the way we behave.
Consider this example: In a business meeting with two partners, the same event triggered a dramatically different response in each person. The CEO went into an absolute rage, whereas the second partner seemed to have no reaction at all.
The enraged CEO believed that “rage” made him stronger and enabled him to deal with the situation. Rage was his way out of pain. Conversely, the partner who felt only “mildly annoyed” was acting on a belief that getting too upset would make him lose control of the situation, and that would mean too much pain. He wasn’t disassociating; he honestly was not feeling the intense anger.
This is the essence of Transformational Vocabulary: the words that we attach to our experience become our experience, regardless of whether it’s objectively accurate or not.
Therefore, if we want to change our lives and our destiny, we need to consciously choose the words we use to describe our emotional states. What would happen if, the next time you were in a situation that used to make you feel angry, instead you felt annoyed? Or if you used a word like “peeved” instead of “enraged” to describe your experience? Maybe instead of feeling “worried,” what if you used the words, “I’m a little concerned,” or “I need some clarification”?
Conversely, if someone asks you how you’re doing, think of the difference between responses like “Oh, I’m okay, I guess” and “I’m feeling on top of the world!” The labels we put on our experience become our experience. Choose your words wisely.

7 Poisonous Beliefs That Make You Desperately Unhappy

Happiness Hands
All of us, at least once in a while, are unhappy.
But what if you’re unhappy much of the time? In most cases the cause is not external. How happy you feel is in large part something you can control.
But not if…
You believe professional success will bring lasting fulfillment.
You can love your company but it will never love you back. (Cliché, sure, but true.) Another cliché, just as true: No person lying on his deathbed ever said, "I sure wish I had spent more time at work..."
Professional success, no matter how grand, is still fleeting.
Fulfillment comes from achieving something and knowing it will carry on: Raising great kids, being a part of a supportive extended family, knowing you have helped others and changed their lives for the better...
Work hard on business. Work just as hard on a few other things you can someday look back on with a different sense of pride.
Then you will to feel great both now and later.
You believe simply joining will create a sense of belonging.
Making connections with other people is easier than ever, and not just through social media. Joining alumni groups and professional organizations, wearing golf course polo shirts or college sweatshirts, putting a sticker with initials like “HH” on your car to announce to the world you summer at Hilton Head Island… many people try hard to show -- if only to themselves -- that they belong.
Most of those connections are superficial at best.
If your spouse passes away the alumni organization may send flowers. (Well, probably not.) If you lose your job a professional organization may send you a nifty guide to networking. (Well, probably not, but they will send you the invoice when it's time to renew your membership.) Anyone can buy, say, a University of VA sweatshirt. (It was on sale.)
The easier it is to join something the less it means to you. A true sense of belonging comes from giving, self-sacrifice, and effort.
To belong you must share a common experience — the tougher the experience, the better.
Clicking a link lets you join; staying up all night with a crew loading trailers to meet an urgent ship date lets you belong. Sending a donation gets your name in a program; working in an over-crowded soup kitchen (something, to my discredit, I've never done) lets you belong to a group of people striving to make a difference.
Pick a group you want to belong to and do the work necessary to earn respect and trust.
A true sense of belonging gives you confidence, especially during tough times, and provides a sense of security and well-being even when you're by yourself -- because when you truly belong, you never feel alone.
You believe you can do everything.
Our parents were well intentioned but wrong: We can’t be whatever we want to be.We can all achieve amazing things, but we can’t do everything we set our minds to. Genetics, disposition, and luck play a part too.
The key is to know yourself and then work to be the best you can be based on your unique set of advantages and limitations.
Here’s a non-business example. Say you decide you want to run a marathon. Fine -- with enough training almost anyone is capable. But say you're a guy who weighs a muscular 250 pounds and you want to finish in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes. That's just not going to happen; you’re not made that way and the attempt will leave you discouraged, defeated, and unhappy.
But with the right approach you could probably bench 350 pounds, something the whippet-thin marathon runners will never do.
What you achieve isn’t nearly as important as achieving something. Pick a goal you’re suited for and go after it.
Doing something -- doing anything -- that most other people cannot or will not do will make you prouder, more fulfilled, and a lot happier.
You’re afraid of who you really are.
None of us really likes how we look. So we try to hide who we really are with the right makeup and the right clothes and the occasional BMW.
In the right setting and the right lighting... hey, we’re happy.
But not at the gym. Or the beach. Or when we have to run to the grocery store but feel self-conscious because we’re wearing ratty jeans and an old t-shirt and we haven’t showered and we think everyone is staring at us.
So we spend considerable time each day avoiding any situation that makes us feel uncomfortable about how we look or act. And that makes us miserable.
In reality no one really cares how we look... except us. (And maybe our significant others, but they’ve already seen us at our worst so that particular Elvis has definitely left the building.)
So do this. Undress and stand in front of the mirror. (And don’t do the hip-turn shoulder-twist move to make your waist look slimmer and your shoulders broader.)
Take a good look. That’s who you are. Chances are you won't like what you see, but you'll probably also be surprised you don’t look as bad as you suspected.
Then, if you don’t like how you look, decide what you’re willing to do about it and start doing it. (Just don't ever compare yourself to other people; your only goal is to be a better version of the current you.)
Or, if you aren’t willing to do anything about how you look, that’s fine too. Move on. Let it go. Stop worrying about how you look. Stop wasting energy on something you don't care enough about to fix.
Either way, remember that while the only person who really cares how you look isyou, many people care about the things you do.
Looking good is fun. Doing good makes you happy.
You have no one to call at 3 a.m.
Years ago I lived in a house beside a river. Flooding from a hurricane put my housein the river. I had about an hour to move as much as I could and I called my friend Doug; I knew he would come, no questions asked.
Today, aside from family, I’m not sure whom I would feel comfortable calling.
I know you have lots of friends… but how many people do you feel comfortable calling in the middle of the night if you need help? How many people can you tell almost anything… and you know they won’t laugh? How many people can you feel comfortable sitting with for a long time… without either of you speaking?
Most of us wear armor that protects us from insecurity. That armor also makes us lonely, and it’s impossible to be happy when you’re lonely.
Take off your armor and make some real friends. It’s easier than it sounds, because other people long to make real friends too. Don’t worry; they’ll like the real you. And you’ll like the real them.
And all of you will be much happier.
You believe structure is the same as control.
Most of what we do, especially professionally, is based on trying to maintain control: processes, guidelines, strategies… everything we plan and implement is designed to control the inherently uncontrollable and create a sense of security in a world filled with seemingly random occurrences. (Did I just get philosophical on you? Sorry.)
Eventually those efforts fall short, though, because structure never equals control. No matter how many guidelines we establish for ourselves, we often step outside them. (Otherwise we’d all be slim, trim, fit, and rich.) Budgets and diets and five-year plans fall apart and we get even more frustrated because we didn't achieve what we planned or hoped. To-do lists and comprehensive daily schedules are helpful, but you only make real progress towards a goal when it means something personal.
Decide what you really want to do and go after it. You'll feel a real sense of control because you really care.
And when you truly care -- about anything – you feel a lot happier.
You believe you no longer need to fail.
Most of us do everything we can to avoid failure. That's a natural instinct with an unnatural by-product: we start to lose the ability to question our decisions.
And we lose the ability to see ourselves from another person's point of view. The ability to work with and lead others is compromised when we lose perspective on what it's like to not have all the answers… and what it's like to make mistakes.
So go out and fail, but not in the way you might think. Forget platitudes like, "In business, if you aren't failing you aren't trying.” Business failures cost time and money that most of us don't have. (My guess is "Failure" doesn’t appear as a line item in your operating budget.)
Instead fail at something outside of work. Pick something simple that doesn't take long and set a reach goal you know you won't reach. If you normally run two miles, try to run five. If you play a sport, play against people a lot better than you. If you must choose a business task, cold call ten prospects.
Whatever you choose to do, give it your all. Leave no room for excuses. Make sure you can only be judged on your merits – and that you will be found wanting.
Why? Failure isn't defeating. Failure is motivating.
Plus failure provides a healthy dose of perspective, helps us be more tolerant and patient, and helps us remember that we're a lot like the people around us.
When you realize you aren't so different or "special" after all, it's a lot easier to be happy with the people around you -- and happy with yourself.
